Who is Buzz Lightyear?

     Buzz Lightyear is a space action figure.  His personality is brave, dependable, and self-sacrificing.  He believes that rules are meant to be followed and is a great leader.  He was introduced in the Disney film, "Toy Story."  He is often heard saying, "To infinity and beyond!"  Buzz has two friends, Woody, and Andy.  Buzz Lightyear has laser beam, pop-out wings, and karate chops, since he has been trained in several forms of martial arts.

Toy Story:

     Buzz Lightyear was given as a birthday gift to a boy named Andy.  In Buzz's mind, he is not a toy, but instead is a defender of the galaxies, and must save the entire universe from the evil villain Emperor Zurg.  This causes conflict with another character, Woody, whom Buzz sees as a "sad, strange, little man."  Buzz helps save Woody on several occasions, and still continues to believe that he is a space ranger.  Buzz learns he is not a toy when he tries to fly out of Sid's house and breaks his arm.  He becomes sad and depressed to learn he is a toy, but soon accepts reality and reunites with the other toys.

Toy Story 2: 

     In the sequel, Buzz must lead Rex, Hamm, Slinky, and Mr. Potato Head to rescue Woody.  Woody has been stolen by the owner of Al's Toy Barn, Al McWhiggin, to add to his collection.  Buzz follows Woody's trail and rescues Woody.  Buzz gets captured by a newer Buzz Lightyear action figure who imprisons him. Buzz Lightyear gets away and at the end of the story Buzz and Woody are watching the Super Bowl with their girlfriends.

Buzz Lightyear's Costume:

    Buzz has a high-tech space suit, but it is more streamlined than astronaut suits.  He has a control panel on his chest.  There is a large red button on the left of the suit that says "Lightyear" and will activate the flight system of the suit.  This button causes the wings to unfold, the boosters at the bottom will ignite, and Buzz will fly.

    The buttons on Buzz's suit have several purposes.  One purpose is that he can contact Star Command.  His suit also will protect him from the cold and vacuum of space.  It can translate his language into outer space language. 

     His retractable helmet will completely cover his face while allowing him to breathe.  He has a purple button on his chest armor that will activate his helmet, and when he presses it once, the helmets seals, and when pressed a second time, the helmet comes back down. 

     On Buzz's left arm you will find a panel that can flip open to show a display to record notes.  Here you will also see "Made in Taiwan".  Buzz's right arm includes a weapon system which will send out a powerful laser from his wrist.  Buzz's backpack holds his wings and boosters.

Buzz Lightyear would be a great costume for this Halloween, don't you think?
