Halloween costumes for pregnant women haven't ever been so creative! These days many women want to show off their baby bumps with creative and fun Halloween costumes. While in the not so recent past it was considered bad taste to dress up if you were pregnant, much of the up tightness has lifted. Pregnant women are starting to get a better sense of humor and joining in the fun.

The picture above shows a great Halloween costume for a pregnant woman. The mermaid outfit is set off with a great clam shell and the little "pearl" inside is the belly bump. Just make sure you are comfortable walking in the tight legged mermaid "tail". You won't be able to see your feet, but you should be used to that right?

The pregnant nun can be controversial depending on the crowd you are in, but have your man dress as the naughty priest and your sure to get some laughs. Maybe a few weird looks, but laughs none the less. You can purchase a pregnant nun outfit at most Halloween stores, you just won't need the artificial belly.

Another good one used be the pregnant man. Or pregnant man hillbilly. But since the news has given us a "pregnant man", it's not quite as funny as it used to be. So depending on your tastes, you can dress in one of your husband or boyfriends suits, put on a fake mustache and a pair of fake eyebrows or beard. Add in some Bubba teeth for the redneck or hillbilly look.

It was great I found a large tacky wedding dress at a local thrift store for about $10. It had a deep plunge back and lots of tacky lace and bad beading. I put my hair in pigtails, dotted on some freckles, blacked out a couple of teeth and had a friend draw a huge "Daddy's Little Girl" tattoo on my back. The funniest part of the evening was stopping at a local convenience store for a pack of gum cigarettes. A man bought me a lollipop ring and got on one knee to ask for my hand! It was hilarious!

For those who would rather stay to the cute side of the ideas, here are a few that I've heard from friends or family. Belly bump painting has become quite popular.

Dress as a cat, cut the black leotard at the belly and paint a fishbowl on your bump.
Pumpkin bump - use your belly as a canvas for a jack-o-lantern.
Road signs are popular as well - stop sign, bump sign, caution sign, or even the ever popular baby-on-board will give a couple giggles. If you aren't crazy about painting your tummy, just get an extra long black t-shirt and use some fabric paint. Some women might have a reaction to the paint being applied directly to the skin.

Just because you are pregnant, doesn't mean you have to dress as a pregnant "x". It's Halloween you can be anything you want! Many Halloween costume stores will offer pregnancy costumes of nearly any genre. But for those who wish to show off their bumps, the more elaborate costumes might prove to be a nuisance but the ever popular "bun in the oven" idea consists of an oven contraption with the door opened to reveal your precious "bun".

Another great idea for a Halloween costume for pregnant women is a black leotard with a skeleton frame and inside the "bump" area, a little tiny skeleton.
