MULAN COSTUME

Mulan a favorite Disney character.

 

Mulan is one of the greatest Disney female characters.  While she is beautiful and smart, she is also a fierce warrior.  Many little girls lean toward the tomboy more than the princess.  Mulan is a great character for the tomboy in all the girls.  Who wants to be a princess when you can have a dragon for a friend and use a sword?  Most Mulan costumes are manufactured for little girls, and can be found at several online or outlet Halloween stores.  The Disney Store offers one for around $20.   The manufactured Mulan costume offers everything a little girl needs to be just a little girly.  With a satiny geisha-like outfit, shoes and a crown any little girl can transform into Mulan for any occasion. 

 

But what about the big girls?  Some adult costumes will closely resemble a Mulan costume or you can make one yourself.  The first thing you'll need is the wig.  The Find has a wide variety of geisha wigs in all styles and lengths.  Choose your favorite, prices range from $4 to $50.  You should decide on your budget before shopping.  If you plan to wear your Mulan costume more than once, spending a little extra for the big items such as the wig will pay off in the long run.  Or if you purchase a nice wig you could use it for future costumes.  It just depends on your level of Halloween fancy.

The makeup should be subtle, go for a geisha look, without the harshness or big contrasts.  If you are not Asian, just use some liquid black eyeliner to extend your eyelids on top and bottom and use a thick line on the upper lid to bring your eyes more in line with the Asian look.

Now you need to decide if you plan to use the Mulan costume during the more girly scenes or the fighting scenes.  For the girlier scenes you can choose a geisha outfit and tone down the colors a bit.  For the warrior look you have a couple of options: you can order the full costume or you can sew with if you are crafty with a sewing machine.
