Pirates of the Caribbean Costumes

     Johnny Depp is the adrogynous Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean:  The Curse of the Black Pearl.  Other important characters include Orlando Bloom, who is a blacksmith and expert swordsman and Keira Knightly, the beautiful daughter of the governor.  Additionally, there is Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, who is the mutineer who wants to reverse the curse against him. 

     The plot of the movies is about how Captain Jack Sparrow goes to the town of Port Royal to search for a ship for the purpose of recapturing his pirate vessel, The Black Pearl.  The Black Pearl had been marooned on a desert island due to a mutiny led by Barbossa.  Little did Barbossa know that the mysterious treasure chest he found contained both Aztec gold and a terrible curse.  Captain Jack Sparrow must help Will Turner find the ship, the lost Aztec gold, and Elizabeth, the young prisoner of Captain Barbossa.

     Dressing like a pirate is not too hard.  If you are going to wear a Jack Sparrow costume, you must have the hair.  Captain Jack Sparrow wears  bandana over his long brown hair.  He also has several braids and beads in his hair.  I have seen great wigs that people have purchased to replicate Captain Jack Sparrow's hair perfectly.  He wears a moustache and small goatee.  You can get by with a button down off-white long-sleeve shirt and a brown vest and pants.  Make sure you dirty yourself up a little.  Jack and his clothes look like they are not the cleanest, so make sure you aren't looking prim and proper if you want to truly have an authentic Pirates of the Caribbean costume.  

     To look like Keira Knightley, you will need a black garment that is loose around the arms but hugs the body.  It will need to be gray or black with gold trim.  You could take a karate gi and dye it black, cinch it around the waste, and you have a pretty good imitation.  Also, wear your hair long and parted in the middle, and carry a sword.  This will be a great Pirates of the Caribbean costume.

     To look like Orlando Bloom, you will need an off-white button down shirt with several buttons open on the top.  Over the shirt, you will need a light brown jacket with similar detailing to what you see Orlando wearing.  Notice that the jacket is form fitting.  Wear a belt with some light colored easy to move in pants and some boots.  Orlando wears his hair dark, long, and slightly curly and wears it loose down his back.  Like Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando (Will Turner) also has a small moustache and goatee.  You will look great in this Pirates of the Caribbean costume.

     To look like Captain Barbossa, you will need a large oversized hat, very dark loose fitting pants, tall boots, and a huge trench coat.  Your hair should be worn long and loose under the hat, and you must carry a sword.

     Choose your favorite pirate this Halloween to dress as.  Pirates of the Caribbean costumes are so much fun and you will truly enjoy being a pirate for the day.
