Willy Wonka Costume
Willy Wonka dressed in a very unique way. He was always dressed exactly the same in the movie. He always had the black top hat with velvet trim, a velvet trench coat, with black pants, a black shirt, and shoes. You cannot see them in this picture, but he also wore purple gloves. He also had shoulder length straight brown hair. As an accessory, he always carried around a cane.
Willy Wonka is the eccentric yet lovable character from Roald Dahl's book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." The first film starred Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, and was released in 1971.

This is Gene Wilder, performing the original Willy Wonka. Here he is dressed slightly differently from the above picture. Willy is instead sporting a brown hat, a light green bowtie, and a purple jacket.

This is the original illustration of Willy Wonka based on how Roald Dahl, the author, visualized him. Here he is wearing a gray top hat, a white bow tie with yellow polka-dots, a yellow vest and yellow socks, a purple coat, green pants, and gray shoes. He is also wearing blue gloves and is carrying a yellow cane.
While at the time it was considered a flop, today it is considered to be a classic. In 2005, another version of the book was released on film and stars Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. This film made some changes to the character of Willy Wonka. Willy Wonka had a difficult childhood. His father, a dentist, would not allow him to eat chocolate. He also made him wear uncomfortable and ugly orthodontic headware. He eventually tastes chocolate behind his father's back, and as an adult, well, you know he created the chocolate factory. He later invited five children to the chocolate factory. To be chosen, one had to find the golden ticket in one of Wonka's candy bars. While four of the children had extreme character flaws (Veruca Salt, Mike Teavee, Agustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde), little Charlie Bucket is kind, unselfish, considerate, and a good listener. Wonka had a purpose in mind when he sent out the golden tickets. He was looking to find a new owner of the chocolate factory. As you read the book or watch the movie, you quickly figure out that Willy Wonka intends to get rid of all the spoiled brats and that he will be left with Charlie. Sure enough, we have a happy ending for Charlie, who went from poverty and starvation to being the owner of Wonka's Chocolate Factory. As a character Willy Wonka is very interesting and entertaining and always keeps you smiling.

I recommend dressing as Willy Wonka for Halloween. He is a recognizable character by both adults and children.
